BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) team achieved an outstanding feat at the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Final. Held from May 23-26, 2024, in Shenzhen, China, the competition brought together 50 teams from 32 countries in the Network Track category. The ITB team secured a commendable second place, marking a significant achievement on the international stage.

Preparation for the competition began well before the grand event. Starting with the first campus-level phase in October 2023, the ITB team demonstrated remarkable dedication. The top three students from ITB, Ribka Tiarma (18120078), Helmi Ahmad Khaderani (18120067), and Yeremias Mangu (18122010), were chosen to represent the university at the national level, continuing their journey with unwavering determination.

“In preparation for this competition, we gathered and practiced every day for a month. Training started at 3 PM after classes and often lasted until 8 PM, and sometimes even until 11 PM,” Yeremias shared during an interview.

At the national stage, the ITB team competed against universities from across Indonesia. Their hard work and exceptional skills earned them first place, advancing them to the Asia Pacific level.

During the regional round held in Jakarta, the ITB team faced contenders from the Asia Pacific region, triumphing over countries like Malaysia, the defending champion, to secure first place once again.

Yet, their journey was far from over. The global stage in Shenzhen presented the greatest challenge. Competing internationally meant facing teams from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and China, the host country. This demanded thorough preparation, strong teamwork, and deep understanding of the highly complex competition material.

“This competition was a practice-based challenge where we had to solve complex network topology problems, including issues in data communication, security, and WLAN,” Yeremias explained.

“I participated in this competition due to my interest in computer networks and because it aligns with what I study in my major, making it highly beneficial for my skills development in networking,” he added.

Their global success was the result of consistent hard work and relentless commitment. From October 2023 to May 2024, the ITB team navigated through various stages with utmost dedication.

The experiences and knowledge gained throughout this journey became invaluable assets for them. They emphasized the importance of teamwork and the continuous pursuit of learning without complacency.

With this achievement, the ITB team not only elevated the university's name but also brought pride to Indonesia on the international stage. They aspire to continue excelling in the future, including participating in similar competitions organized by Cisco, and once again represent ITB and Indonesia globally.

The ITB team’s struggle and success aim to inspire other students to remain passionate about pursuing their goals, setting targets, working hard, and always striving to learn. This accomplishment is hoped to be the beginning of many more significant achievements in the future.
