BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - As an agent of change, it is essential for a student of higher education institution to master critical thinking. To develop, the brilliant ideas produced by students need to be implemented in real life. There are many possible ways to accommodate the needs of students to shape their mind and skill, for example is through competition and research. However, without sufficient publication, brilliant ideas and glorious victories would be such a waste. Based on this, ITB Student Family (KM ITB) started a new project called Galeri Gajah (Elephant Gallery). This specially designed concept of channeling students' innovation and research to wider range of audience was embodied in a gallery located in ITB East Campus Center (CC).

Replacing the Irony

Officially open for the first time in November 2015, Galeri Gajah was a product of ITB KM under the division of Innovation and Creation. The fact that countless works of ITB students are not well-publicized is perceived by people as the hiatus of the university. In fact, there are lots of products waiting to be introduced to the world. Numerous innovations are born every day from the splendid combination of science, technology, art and business. These innovations are ready to be developed in order to instill insights. Galeri Gajah exists to connect all of the innovations produced by ITB students to the public. It is such an irony that despite the rising number of innovation and works from every corner of this campus, ITB students are not aware of them.

Featured innovations in Galeri Gajah came from various backgrounds such as Student Creativity Program (PKM), ITB Innovators Move (ITB Inmove), campus extracurriculars, and even undergraduate final projects. ITB students were given the chance to sign up their works. The innovations may come in the form of a finished product or prototype. "We understand that every work has its own flaw, all we need to do is to first do the talk. We really are pro-innovation," said Alexander Septian or Asep (Engineering Physics 2013), the chief of Galeri Gajah.

Ready to Greet I
TB and the World

Galeri Gajah needs to put its extra effort in order to be more familiar among ITB students. After holding its grand opening in November 2015 presenting the best nine innovations of ITB students along with a talkshow entitled "Creating for Self-sustaining Indonesia", which was enlivened by excellent lineup of keynote speakers, Galeri Gajah was back on track greeting ITB on the second grand opening last Monday (25/04/16). This time, Galeri Gajah invited representatives from student societies, student extracurricular clubs, and ITB KM to East CC to experience the lively atmosphere of inspiration and learn more about Galeri Gajah. Ten innovations featured on the second grand opening are carikos.id, Algacentrum, Ecosorb, Wood Typography, CornriceBerasJagung, Pilit, Relea, Navire, Rolling Stain and Integrated Controlled Sorbent.

After the exposure, it is highly expected for Galeri Gajah mentioned more among ITB students. This second opening ceremony was also strengthened with ongoing roadshow from Galeri Gajah. As a long term goal, Galeri Gajah is expected to channel more innovations of ITB students to greater external parties such as investors or government. To fulfill the said expectation, Galeri Gajah is currently preparing a grand exhibition project that will be held next October. Set as the main targets of this event are students from ITB or any other higher education institution, general public, and investors from companies and government. "Support came from almost everywhere. We've got ITB Public Relation, LembagaKemahasiswaan (LK), Ikatan Alumni, and of course ITB students," said Asep finishing the interview.
